Dragon Birthday Cakes
79
I decided to create this page with the new movie How to Train Your Dragon in mind that will be out in theaters March 2010. But even if you are not having a party based on that theme and just a Mythical Party Theme where the Dragon is your focus than I am going to show you some great ideas to create a Dragon Cake that will be the center piece of your party table.
The picture you see to your right was made by Mike's Amazing Cakes and it is truly amazing and most of us, unless you are a professional, would not be able to re-create that at home.
So come along with me as I show you some great ideas to get you inspired to want to create a Dragon Cake of your very own. Remember the limit is only your imagination and my job with this page is to help get it going.
Fire-Breathing Dragon Cake
This Dragon Cake happens to be one of my favorites for a few reasons. One of them is that any one can make this and you do not need to be a professional. Second is that you can change the colors to anything you want - so no matter what color Dragon you want you can do it. Third is that you can follow Step by Step directions on how to create this cake with photos at Instructables website. Believe it or not this is all you need to create this cake:
2 9-inch cakes
6 cups of frosting, your choice of color (more or less, depending on
how thick you like your icing.
8 Keebler chocolate covered graham crackers
8 Sunkist fruit gems
2 Sunkist fruit slices
2 Blue Fruit Roll-Ups
1 Red Fruit Roll-Up
1 Yellow Fruit Roll-Up
1 Marshmallow
2 Chocolate Chips
2 Hershey's Kisses
2 Wooden Skewers
How cool is it that the Dragon's Wings are made from Fruit Roll Ups? You can definitely make a statement with this cake and you can do it!!

This Dragon Cake is fairly easy to create, but you will need to be a bit proficient at using some pastry tips if you want that pointed look on the Dragon's Body.
Dragon Cake from Sweet Dreams by Tracy
I came across another great tutorial over at Sweet Dreams by Tracy where she has Step By Step Directions on creating a very cool version of a Dragon.
She also has a great gallery of photos of what others have created using her tutorial and some of those photos you will see to your right, but there are many more. You can see how everyone has taken her idea and just made it a bit different to make it their own and that is what it is all about.
So many creative people out there!!!
Dragon Cake Pans
Now you will not find any Dragon Cake Pans (Wilton did make one once and you can find it EBay), but there are Dinosaur Cake Pans that would work. All you need to do is add some Dragon touches to your decorations like Fire coming from the mouth, maybe a pair of wings using the Fruit Roll Up Idea and no one would ever know the difference.

How about a Cupcake Dragon?
Now this is a fun idea - A Cupcake Dragon. What I love about this is that there is no need to cut a cake it is all already done for you. This Cupcake Dragon is made up of 24 Cupcakes - now that is HUGE. The eyes are Marshmallows and so are the teeth. Then they used assorted candies for the Eyes, Nails and Cookies for the Bumps. Now that looks YUMMY.

Wow, I would never have known they made dragon cake pans, but of course, it makes perfect sense. There seems to be no end to the adorable cakes I see. Love them, but it seems a shame to eat them.
I am making the one from Family Fun for a Cub Scout cake contest this weekend. My son just mixed up the cake and we are baking it now...can't wait to see how it comes out!
Having been born in the year of the Dragon I love these cakes! Great hub Nicole!
They are cute! Yet I will probably just stare at them and not be able to cut a slice for tasting.
Wow!That's cool.
