Popcorn Cupcakes

I absolutely love these Popcorn Cupcakes and they are a fun treat for all your party guests. So many people are unaware that you can make a cupcake look like popcorn so you will certainly wow them as well. These cupcakes would be a great addition to any Movie Theme Party, Hollywood Theme Party, Circus or CarnivalTheme Party or any party really that would be a perfect fit to enjoy some fun popcorn.

They are also a fun activity if you give the guests all the things they need to create their cupcake and let them create their own - that is always fun. They are very easy to make and yummy too. So let me show you all the ways you can make these at home and provide you with the inspiration you need.

The Party Animal

Now everyone has a little different way of creating these, but these are your basic directions. They are so easy to do and fun to make.

What you will Need:

• Cupcakes (That is a given)
• White or Vanilla Frosting
• Mini Marshmallows
• Yellow Food Coloring Gel
• Paint Brush
• Scissors
• Cupcake liners
• Popcorn Cups or Containers (see ideas below)

Bake your Cupcakes, while doing that you can prep your Marshmallows - Take your scissors and cut a criss-cross half way down on them so they pop open like a kernel of popcorn would. Set aside. When your Cupcakes are cooled off give them a layer of frosting. (you may want to stick them in your Popcorn Bag or Cup at this point before continuing) Then place your mini Marshmallows on top covering the top of the cupcake. Then take your Yellow Food Coloring Gel and get some on your paint brush and lightly color the tops of some of your mini Marshmallows to give the look of butter being on them.

That is it - Now how easy was that? If you are making them ahead of time set them up on a nice display or let the kids create there own as a party activity. Be sure to take lots of pictures and enjoy.

I have seen many different cups and bags used for holding the Popcorn Cupcakes - so let me share some of them with you. One cute idea was using Wilton Nut Cups which are the perfect size to hold your cupcake. They come in white so all you need to do is take a red marker and make stripes on the cups. Then you can create Popcorn Labels that read Popcorn to stick on the front. You can also cut down Popcorn Bags or use Larger Containers and pile them up. One idea I really like that can also double as a Party Favor is use the Plastic Popcorn Containers fill them with Tissue Paper or other fun party goodies leaving enough room for the cupcake to sit at the top. Then your guests have a fun take home gift that they can enjoy and a popcorn container they can take home and use over again.
